- About
Each year, we celebrate the life and legacy of our Founder, Constant van Crombrugghe with a day of celebrations at both schools. This year, Founder’s Day will take place on Friday 29th November. We continue to be inspired by his ethos and passions, particularly his love for music and the outdoors. It is therefore fitting that this year’s fundraising efforts will support these two essential parts of the curriculum.
Expanding Outdoor Learning at the Junior School
At the Junior School, we aim to enhance our outdoor learning environment by fundraising for new activities tailored for younger children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, who may sometimes find the playground overwhelming. These additions will provide a more structured and positive break time experience.
We plan to introduce outdoor games such as giant Jenga, Connect Four, chess, dominoes and Swingball. These games are not only fun but also promote social interaction, physical activity, and cognitive development. Teachers will be available to guide play, ensuring a structured and enjoyable setting for everyone.
For our Year 2 pupils, we envision creating new play zones, including a nature area with a garden where they can learn about plants, insects, and the environment. This will offer a wonderful opportunity for them to explore and connect with nature. Additionally, we plan to set up a creative corner with outdoor easels, chalkboards, and art supplies, allowing children to express their creativity and imagination in the great outdoors.
We also hope to introduce an age-appropriate science area with water and sand, where children can engage in hands-on learning and discover the wonders of science through play. Lastly, a quiet area with games like snakes and ladders and chess would be fantastic for those children who prefer a more relaxed and calm environment during breaktime.
Outdoor lesson plans will be incorporated, and teachers will receive training on using the space effectively. The area will be fully accessible for wheelchair users and include sensory play equipment to support students with sensory processing needs. Regular outdoor learning opportunities will be included in the weekly timetable
Enhancing our Music Facilities at the College
Music is a vital part of the curriculum at St George’s College, which boosts a rich history of musical excellence and has nurtured many talented musicians. This Founder’s Day, we seek your support to elevate our Music department by creating a dynamic learning environment that inspires a love for music, sparks creativity and active participation among all students.
We aim to upgrade our current music classrooms with the latest equipment which includes new keyboards, splitters, a digital piano, audio interface and music software to create a more modern, dynamic and effective teaching environment. This will allow us to dedicate the Recital Room exclusively for daily rehearsals and live performances, welcoming parents and the broader Georgian community to enjoy frequent live music events.
Lastly we would like to revitalise and expand our recording studio to advance our music technology offering for all students.
We are asking for your support this Founder’s Day. Every contribution, big or small, will help us create an enriching outdoor learning environment at the Junior School and cultivate a thriving and inclusive musical community at the College. Georgians may prefer to donate to Where there is greatest need, a fund which provides support to the most pressing prioirties within our school community.
Thank you Georgians!
